There are many types and causes of headaches. Regardless of the cause, if you have a headache, you want it to end. Fast! This has produced a huge market for medications that cover up the symptoms of headaches. Powerful drugs can numb your nervous system so the pain doesn’t register. While these approaches may be convenient, they can also cause adverse effects and kidney or liver damage. Worse, they don’t often correct the underlying cause of the headache.

Some headaches are diffuse (unspecific and hazy), while others are specific in nature and area (behind the eyes, dull ache at the base of the neck). Headaches that are confined to one side of the head are known as migraines. The pain may be intermittent or continuous, occasionally coming in sharp bursts. Some people have headaches at particular times of the day, while others have headaches that may vary in duration.

A frequent and overlooked cause of headaches is the malfunction of spinal bones in the neck and upper back. When bones of the spine lose their normal position or motion, sensitive nerves and blood vessels to the head can be affected. When spinal nerves and related tissues are stretched or irritated, they can produce throbbing headaches.

Many people find relief and correction with chiropractic care.

If a thorough examination reveals reduced range of motion, loss of normal spinal curves, or mechanical restrictions, chiropractic care should be considered. After Dr. Handley will provide a complete explanation along with a care program designed for your unique spinal problem.

Many patients report immediate headache relief. Others fnd that the correction of their problem takes longer because their spinal problem has existed undetected for many years. Please remember that every patient responds differently.
