Do you have the backbone to be healthy?
WHERE DOES IT HURT?
You may wake up with a “kink” in the neck or upper back, or a shooting pain in the shoulder or arm. Sometimes, you’ll notice restricted movement in these regions doing the simplest of tasks, such as putting on a coat or brushing your hair. You may feel a loss of strength in your arm. Are you starting to lose your grip? A burning, tingling or numbing sensation may be felt in the area in question. After the back, the second most common complaint is neck pain. The neck is very vulnerable to stresses and strains and often reacts violently to seemingly insignificant accidents or falls. The shoulder is one of the most intricate body joints and easiest to injure. Its very complexity makes it quite involved to treat and rehabilitate. Arms, being such active extremities, are subject most often to muscle and ligament strains, and even fractures.
CAUSES OF PAIN
For the neck these can be bad or rigid posture, muscle weakness, arthritis, accidents (whiplash), nervous tension, “pinched nerve” and/or bad work habits. For the arms these can be strained muscles, sprained ligaments, bursitis, tendinitis, bone fractures and/or arthritis. For the shoulder these can be bursitis, tendinitis, mechanical dysfunction, muscular imbalance and/or a sports injury. For the upper back these can be spinal derangements, stresses at work, injuries, organic disease, posture defects and/or problems from aging.
